Research consistently shows that parent and family involvement matters greatly to student learning and achievement. Attendance, sleep, reading, homework routines, encouragement, high expectations and conversations about the future all shape student success.
Our educators provide excellent instruction and caring support, and students make the greatest progress when families and schools work together. Every parent, guardian and caregiver has the power to help their child believe, persist and succeed.
Thank you for trusting us with your children and for the daily leadership you provide at home. Together, we can help our students build the habits, skills, and confidence they need for a strong future.
This year, we ask you to partner with us in the following ways:
Make school attendance a priority
Ask your child what specifically they are learning in class
Focus on reading printed text (books, magazines) together and/or encouraging daily independent reading
Create time and space for homework
Limit distractions during study time
Remind your child that effort, responsibility and good decisions open doors to future opportunities

Safety Study Hall and Office of the Education Ombuds

The Washington State Governor’s Office of the Education Ombuds (OEO) is an independent state agency that helps to reduce educational opportunity gaps by supporting families, students, educators and other stakeholders in communities across WA in understanding the K-12 school system and resolving concerns collaboratively. OEO services are free and confidential. Anyone can contact OEO with a question or concern about school. OEO listens, shares information and referrals, and works informally with families, communities, and schools to address concerns so that every student can fully participate and thrive in our state’s public schools.
