What to know about student Chromebooks in the 2026-27 school year

At a glance:

  • Battle Ground is making adjustments to how school-issued technology is used, particularly at the primary and middle school levels.

  • Recent feedback from families, staff and the community indicated a desire to reduce student screen time and scale back the use of Chromebooks, especially for younger students.

  • In addition, we will not have enough staff next year to effectively support the same level of technology in the district.

  • While Chromebooks will continue to play an important role and the shift away from individual Chromebooks does not result in a significant cost savings, we want to be responsive to the feedback.

  • We believe this approach strikes a thoughtful balance between student learning/skill development and the feedback we heard from families who want clearer boundaries around device use.
