Foster Care Support
Battle Ground Public Schools is committed to helping students in foster care feel supported, connected, and successful in school. In coordination with Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF), we work to provide stability, immediate enrollment, and access to the academic and social-emotional resources students need to thrive.
Defining Foster Care
Students are eligible for support services when they are the subject of a dependency proceeding and living in placements such as a foster home, residential facility, relative or kinship care, group home, emergency shelter, pre-adoptive home, or trial return home, including those involved in Tribal Child Welfare and Unaccompanied Refugee Minor programs.
Rights of Students in Foster Care
Receive educational services comparable to those provided to other students according to each student’s need
Enroll in school immediately, even if lacking documents normally required for enrollment
Continue to attend their school of origin OR enroll in their neighborhood school
School of origin refers to the school a student was enrolled in at the time they first entered foster care or, if their placement changes, the school in which they were enrolled at the time of that change
Receive transportation to and from school of origin or local attendance area school.
Free breakfast and lunch at school
Waiving of fees and fines by DCYF

If you need help, please reach out to your school counselor, who also serves as the Foster Care Building Point of Contact, or a Foster Care Liaison at the FCRC. They can assist with enrollment, transportation, and connections to resources.
