Students, staff member contribute to Salmon Creek mural project
This September, an often-vandalized retaining wall near Klineline Pond was given new life in the form of a mural that celebrates healthy streams. The transformation was thanks in part to Pleasant Valley Middle School students Evelyn Walsh and Miriam Calcavura, Communication Specialist Jenna Buescher-Hill and 50 other artists who contributed to the new mural.
The project, the first of its kind in Clark County, was the vision of local resident Vicki Holman. Under the direction of local mural artist Ana Gabriella and the county’s public works staff, Holman’s dream soon became a reality. Spanning approximately 4,000 square feet, the resulting mural features positive messages about preventing stormwater pollution and more than 60 fish native to Salmon Creek. Each fish is painted in a unique style by the volunteer artists.
The wall is located on the south side of Northeast 117th Street, just west of Highway 99. Kudos to all of the volunteers who made it happen!
