Battle Ground Public Schools is considering new curriculum for social and emotional learning that would be used starting next school year, and eventually affect all high school students in the district. We believe that input from families and community members is essential to the process of adopting this new curriculum.
Over the past year, the district has reviewed different curricula and narrowed the options to one finalist that will be presented to the school board for their consideration. Now you have an opportunity to be involved:
Review all of the lessons
See the teaching materials
Ask questions
Provide feedback that will help inform the school board’s decision.
The first reading of the proposed curriculum will be during the board of directors meeting on July 28, 2025.
How to participate
Everyone is welcome, even if they do not currently have a child enrolled in a Battle Ground school.

Why this curriculum matters
The proposed curriculum would build on the social-emotional learning already in place for primary and middle school students since 2023. It aims to support high schoolers with essential life skills such as kindness, respect, communication, collaboration, self-confidence and adaptability. Past surveys of students, parents/guardians and staff members have pointed to the need for schools to teach character education and a variety of social and emotional skills.
If approved, the items would be purchased using funds from a grant that the district received in 2023.
