Subject: Change to weather proceduresDear families of Battle Ground Public Schools,With colder temperatures and precipitation in the weather forecast for early next week, we want to make sure you saw the change to our inclement weather plans.Effective immediately, if there is a need to call a snow day, all school (including remote and in-person learning and services) will be canceled for that day. Canceled school days will be made up using the snow make-up days built into the district calendar. The district could be split into “north” and “south” schools for the purpose of weather closures. The decision to cancel school was made so that the district can provide equitable learning to all students during inclement weather. If travel is not possible, students and staff coming into buildings to access technology may not be able to get to school. The district also believes it is important for students to have a chance to enjoy any snowfall.Weather Information Guide & 5:30 a.m. Phone Calls In case of a school closure, we begin calling families about 5:30 a.m. Please update your child’s contact information on Skyward or with your school office so that we can notify you in the event of a change to the school schedule due to inclement weather. If you do not receive a call, you can call our information line at 360-885-5343 (updated by 6 a.m. on impacted days) to check if there is a change in the school schedule. Additional weather information is on the district website. The district is split into “north” and “south” schools for the purpose of weather closures. Please note whether your school is designated as a “north” or “south” school.North Schools – Battle Ground High, Yacolt Primary and Amboy Middle schools, Captain Strong Primary, Chief Umtuch Middle, Tukes Valley Primary and Middle, and CAM Academy, River HomeLink, and Summit View High School. South Schools – Prairie High, Daybreak Primary and Middle, Maple Grove Primary, Pleasant Valley Primary and Middle, and Glenwood Heights Primary and Laurin Middle.Two-Hour Late Starts The district does not anticipate calling a two-hour late start for K-4 hybrid learning as school will not begin until 10:10 a.m. each day; however, as we transition to middle and high school hybrid it may be necessary to delay the start of school due to weather or road conditions. If a two-hour late start is called, your bus will arrive two hours later for pickup and school will begin two hours later than the regular start time.Snow Bus Routes Snow bus routes will be updated on the district website after hybrid routes have been posted.Parental discretion and weather-related absences Even when a school is open, parents and guardians may use their own judgment whether it is safe to send their children to school. Weather-related absences are excused if they are reported to the school by a parent or guardian.Thank you and have a good evening,Battle Ground Public Schools******************************************************************************** As we approach the transition to hybrid learning for all K-4 students, and as more students have been coming into schools for technology access and support services, Battle Ground Public Schools is changing its inclement weather plans.
