Hello Daybreak Families,
Today, during our Academy classes, we celebrated the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. Your student was shown a presentation, from James Laymen of the Association of Washington Student Leaders, entitled I AM::WE ARE. This presentation was based on Martin Luther King’s “What Is Your Life’s Blueprint?” speech to a Philadelphia junior high school in 1967 and focused on the quote below:
We hope that you’ll continue this important conversation of understanding self-worth and how we affect others with your student tonight or this weekend. Below you will find a few questions that may help you further the conversation.“Number one in your life’s blueprint should be a deep belief in your own dignity, your own worth, and your own somebodiness. Don’t allow anybody to make you feel that you are nobody. Always feel that you count. Always feel that you have worth. And always feel that your life has ultimate significance.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
Family Discussion Questions:
- What is a dream you have for your future?
- When was a moment in your life where you felt fully seen, appreciated, and valued?
- What do you believe Martin Luther King’s legacy is? How can we take his teachings and incorporate them into our daily lives?
